Container Terminal Gates

The Port of Aqaba plays a crucial role in the transportation network of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ), housing key facilities such as the Bulk Cargo Terminal, Container Port, Passenger Terminal, and Industrial Terminals. However, traffic congestion has been a persistent issue due to the shared narrow entrance road for both the Container and Passenger Terminals, causing delays in cargo handling.
To address this challenge, Murad Kalaldeh, during his tenure at Sigma Consulting Engineers, proposed relocating the entrance and exit gates to accommodate four lanes of traffic. The redesigned layout, completed in 2005, aimed to streamline truck movement while ensuring comprehensive security surveillance.
A notable feature of the project is the impressive steel structure used as a roof over the checking gates, enhancing both functionality and durability. Additionally, a catwalk was elevated six meters above the lanes, positioned perpendicular to them, allowing for efficient truck monitoring when needed.
Covering an area of 500 dunums (500,000 square meters), with a built-up area of 500 square meters, the project successfully optimized traffic flow and reinforced security measures at the Aqaba Container Terminal.
